Inside RetroQuest: the world taking shape
Written up from the work itself.
RetroQuest is an independent fantasy MMORPG in active development, inspired by the early days of online worlds. Here is a first look at where the project stands in September 2026.
Two starting cities
Highspire is an outdoor hill city rising through four terraces. Gloomdeep is an indoor city descending through three levels. Both are part of the current development build, with connected zones, merchants, guards, and a classic-style interface. Explore the world and the screenshot gallery.
Find your role
The current roster contains fourteen classes and thirteen races. Combat, spells, inventory, trading, crafting, groups, and guilds form the foundations of the game. The class guide introduces the actual roster; abilities, balance, and art remain in development.
What comes next
Current work focuses on world content, city layouts, character art, equipment, and the tools used to build them. Account authentication and the new-player experience are among the work ahead before wider testing. Read the development roadmap.
